WMS Inventory Discrepancies After Go-Live: Master Data, Barcodes, and Permissions

WMS inventory discrepancy after go-live usually is not a math error in the system. It is three leaks — master data, barcodes, and permissions — each priced here with a 30-day plan to close them.

WMS Data Cleansing Before Go-Live: A Master-Data Checklist That Prevents Rework

Many WMS go-live delays trace back to master data, not missing features. This article offers a data cleansing checklist for five master files, a freeze-and-delta rhythm, and a rework-cost framework.

Onboarding a New 3PL Client: From Signed Contract to First Shipment — Where the Time Really Goes

How to onboard a new 3PL client warehouse without losing a quarter: a 3PL sales director's field notes on the seven gates from signed contract to first shipment, why master data — not systems — causes most delays, and the three questions to ask before signing.

WMS-ERP Integration: 4 Ways Inventory Sync Delay Kills You

WMS-ERP inventory sync delay problems are rarely pure tech bugs. Four ways sync delay kills you — dead scheduled jobs, partial success, master data mismatch, concurrent overselling — with the cost of each and how to survive it, plus the real-time vs scheduled trade-off.

TMS Go-Live, Month One: Clean Your Carrier Master Data First

When a TMS go-live blows up in month one, it's usually not the software — it's dirty carrier master data. A 15-year trucking veteran walks through the three-pass cleanup: verify contacts, reconcile rates, sort black and white lists, plus one counterintuitive rule.

ERP-WMS Integration: When Master Data Falls Out of Sync, Inventory Accuracy Dies

When ERP and WMS inventory numbers never reconcile, the root cause is rarely the interface — it's unsynchronized item master data: mismatched units, missing barcodes, and conversion factors that drift. Drawing on 30-plus go-live projects, WMS implementation consultant Lin Xiao shares a five-step master data playbook, a field-mapping checklist, and two real-world failure stories — plus the counterintuitive lesson that master data ownership, not middleware, decides whether ERP-WMS integration succeeds.

AI Data Preparation: The Three Data Types You Must Clean Up Before Going Live

When AI projects fail in warehouses, at least half the time the data wasn't cleaned up first. Before go-live, three data types must be in order: master data (one code, one thing), transaction data (complete timestamps), and labeled data (with acceptance standards). Includes a real rescue story and a go-live eve checklist.

Natural-language inventory queries sound magical, but real-world accuracy comes down to three things: a defined vocabulary, a confirmation step, and clean master data. WMS consultant Lin Xiao breaks down four traps in the pipeline from three real projects, plus a pre-pilot checklist.

Don't Buy the Algorithm Yet: Clean Up These Three Data Types First

Last year a 3PL in Ontario called me in as a consultant. They wanted AI demand forecasting, the vendor demo looked slick, and the contract was practically signed. I spent two days on site and told the owner the first thing when I got back: spend this money now and it's gone. Not because the algorithm was bad — but because out of their 20,000-plus SKUs, more than 4,000 didn't even have barcodes on them. Pickers identified product from memory. No algorithm on earth can forecast the part of your inventory that lives in someone's head.

WMS Go-Live Master Data Cleanup: Three Checklists for SKUs, Locations, and Inventory

In 2019, I worked a WMS go-live with a 3PL warehouse in Ontario, California - 80,000 square feet, 12,000 SKUs. First week after cutover, the mispick rate jumped from 2% to 9%. Customer service got buried in calls. The software was fine. The integrations were fine. Three days of digging later, the implementation team found the real problem: the data migrated from the legacy system. More than 800 SKUs had no barcode at all, 300-plus had messed-up units of measure (cases and eaches mixed together), and 50-some location codes didn't match between the old and new systems. The owner spent $400,000 on a new system and got taken down by a handful of spreadsheets.
