Pakistan Seeks Alternative LNG Supplies, Braces for Winter Shortages Amid Qatar Force Majeure

QatarEnergy has extended the force majeure on LNG deliveries to Pakistan until November 5; the suspension was first declared in March after its facilities were hit during the US-Iran conflict. Pakistan is heavily exposed -- 35 of the 36 LNG cargoes it imported last winter came from Qatar -- and is bracing for possible winter shortages. The petroleum ministry has tasked Pakistan LNG Limited with sourcing alternative cargoes from the US, the Middle East and Azerbaijan, with a $27/MMBtu ceiling for spot purchases, and is preparing to curtail supplies to some sectors.
