Amazon adds two new China airfreight service offerings

Amazon Global Logistics added two airfreight options between China and the US: Air SMP and Economy Air. Air SMP splits inventory at origin and flies it directly to a locked fulfilment centre in each of Amazon's five US regions, with daily flights from Shanghai and Hong Kong and 7-10 day transit. Economy Air offers a lower-cost 11-15 day option from Shanghai or Shenzhen to Los Angeles. Both target peak-season preparation, stockout recovery, and time-sensitive product launches.

Amazon uses agentic AI to heal problems "in the seams"

Amazon Supply Chain Services VP Peter Larsen told CSCMP EDGE that Amazon has scaled three agentic AI applications: an ad hoc pickup agent that now handles 100% of unscheduled pickup requests with no manual review, a customer engagement agent that fact-checks sales reps in real time, and a pallet optimization agent. Amazon Buys $195 Million Chicago Warehouse for Same-Day Delivery

Amazon has purchased a vacant two-story warehouse at 1237 West Division Street in Chicago for $195 million, converting it into the city's second same-day delivery center. The site will merge fulfillment and delivery operations under one roof, create 200 jobs paying about $24 an hour on average, and is expected to open in late 2027 or early 2028.
